Department: Office of Information Technology

Position: Computer Operations Supervisor

Years at Tech: 6

What are your responsibilities at Tech?

I provide support of the campus information technology services and infrastructure. This includes monitoring, analyzing and troubleshooting vital IT components such as the network, network equipment and application servers. I also train my staff of nine to act as the first line of defense in noticing and resolving major system problems before users are impacted.

Why do you like working at Tech?

I like being able to learn many different kinds of technologies while not being tied to one product. I am versatile by working in a heterogeneous environment such as Georgia Tech. I also like the fact that my support of technology in turn helps people reach their career goals so for me, technology has a purpose.

What is it like working in a college setting?

The students make my work fun. The students help bring a sense of community on campus, which makes working at a college great. That sense of community rubs off on staff and makes it easier to get things done.

Many leaders throughout our Institute are very accessible. Because of this, I feel like I know the direction my department is going and if I have questions, I can talk to management at anytime.

What drives you to help make the Georgia Tech vision, "To define the technological research university of the 21st century," a reality?

As a graduate of Georgia Tech, I have seen firsthand the benefits of going to school here. I also know that the school’s research program is top notch and uses a lot of the technology that I support. Therefore, I know that the better we can make the Information Technology environment, the easier it will be for researchers to do their job and solve some of the real issues of the day.

What have been the highlights of your career at Georgia Tech?

I have had the opportunity to work with a great manager. I’ve learned how to stay on top of my work and what it means to be passionate about your job. In addition to this, another highlight has been being part of the IT family and seeing how everyone shares information for the greater good of the organization. People are so willing to help one another.
