Department: Distance Learning and Professional Education
Position: Program Coordinator
Years at Tech: 16
What are your responsibilities at Tech?
I lead a team responsible for content management and delivery of on-line Distance Learning courses. I also provide design assistance for courses, oversee the streaming video responsibilities of the department including live and on-demand webcasting, encoding, and editing streaming files. I manage quality control for over 50 daily recorded video streams used for distance learning classes globally. I’m also involved in multimedia and web authoring, video production, CD/DVD duplication, and customer service.
Why do you like working at Tech?
I like working at Tech because of the work environment and the people I work with. I also like the many professional development opportunities and the creativity to make improvements to help our student body.
What is it like working in a college setting?
I like the whole atmosphere of the college environment - the energy, the students, buildings, green space and the history. Just being in an academic atmosphere makes me feel more intelligent. The good thing about Tech is that the campus is not so large that you can’t get around and meet with colleagues throughout the campus.
What drives you to help make the Georgia Tech vision, "To define the technological research university of the 21st century," a reality?
By knowing I’m part of a well recognized, world class institution, through my department (Distance Learning), I’m encouraging and advancing the use of technology in education.
What have been the highlights of your career at Georgia Tech?
My role in the design process that created the Georgia Tech On-line program in 1999 and seeing that genesis turn into the distance learning program that we have today. I have also enjoyed assisting with the transition to a file based/on-line distribution method for our department. Last, but certainly not least, working in the 1996 Olympic Village was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
